Jesus continued praying that if it were possible for that he would not drink that cup but not His will but God's will be done. What was in the cup that Jesus didn't want? Ps 75:8...the cup contained God's wrath and anger and judgement against sin. It contained God forsaking humans and that was hell. Jesus dreaded being forsaken by God. When Jesus was praying; he thought of me; he accepted to be forsaken by God for me to be accepted by God. He wanted me to experience the fellowship with God that He enjoyed from eternity. Sin is serious in that it cannot be ignored. The full punishment must be paid because God is a just God.
God judged the whole human race to be under sin. We deserved to experience hell which is the only God-forsaken place. Jesus loved you and I that he came to take my sin.
There is a theory that says that there was a urgent meeting in heaven when man sinned to discuss who would die for the sins of the world and all the angels kept silent ; and after a long period of Time Jesus stood and said He would die for the world and all the angels applauded Him. As good as it seems, I disagree for these reasons.
1. A created being can only pay the price of only one created being. No angel therefore could pay the punishment of more than one person since they are created beings.
2. Hell is for eternity and no created being can experience it in 3,hours.
Thus it has to be God Himself alone who could pay for the sins of the world and since He is an infinite being He could experience all the concentrated agonies of hell of all of the human race in three hours on the cross. At the end of that period He said that it was finished.
Jesus loved you so much; how much do you love Him. He experienced all the agonies of hell for you. It was your sin not His that crucified Christ. It was not the Romans, it was you and I, do you see it or are you still blind?
Jesus valued the fellowship with the Father that He dreaded when it had to break; He prayed for 3hours for it not to be broken but not His will but God's will be done; He knew that if he bore the sins of the world even His Father who loved Him and enjoyed His fellowship from eternity would not look at Him nor could he answer His prayer.
To Jesus, fellowship with God was the most important thing. What about you? What do you value most in your life?
Fellowship with God must become primary in our lives. When breaks it we must hate it and get rid of it in our lives. Sin is the only thing that breaks it and we must hate it and seek God's power to overcome it.
O that God may plant a deep hatred for sin in our hearts, and that we may have his priorities primarily. May we live with eternal values in our view.
You are blessed to be a blessing
