YOU WHO TEACH OTHERS, DON’T YOU TEACH YOURSELF

This is a statement found in Romans 2:21

It begins in verses 19-24; it speaks of people who are confident that they are a guide to the blind and a light to those who are in darkness. They think they can correct the foolish and teach children the ways of God. These people are certain that they have complete knowledge and truth gotten from Gods law.

Then comes the question, you who teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You who tell others not to steal, do you steal? You who tell others not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, do you rob temples?

Looking at the examples above, we see that as good as teaching maybe, we should only teach what we have practiced, as it is written of Jesus in Act 1;1, HE BEGUN TO DO AND THEN TEACH, but the Pharisees TAUGHT BUT NEVER DID WHAT THEY TAUGHT. Mat 23:3

It is easy to condemn those who commit sexual sin, but before that, are you doing the same in your thought? Jesus says in Mat 5:28, if a man looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Stop lusting with your eyes and then only can you have authority to speak on the subject.

You may condemn those who murder the lives of others and be very disgusted with them, but do you do the same? The bible says that if you hate your brother in your heart, you are a murderer. I John 3:15. It doesn’t matter what the person has done to you, if you hate him/her you are a murderer and we know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

You maybe condemning other believers because they may be wrong in one or two doctrines, but before that, you with your correct doctrine, is what you profess true in your inner life. Does your outer life match your inner life or are you a hypocrite. God does not look at the head but looks at the heart.

We see Solomon warning so much in proverbs about sexual sin Proverbs chapters 2,5,6,7 and other places, but reading his story we see that he fell in this same area that he warned others, 1Kings 11:3, and that is why we need to be much more careful to only correct or even teach others in the areas where we have judged ourselves first.

It was Saul who destroyed the witches in the whole land of Israel but at the end of his life he went to seek for a witch. Where he warned others, he also fell 1Sam 28:8-9. Judge yourself first before you warn others

Peter puts murders and thieves and evil doers and busybodies in other peoples matters in the same categories. Before you condemn evil doers, thieves and murderer, are you a busybody in other peoples matters, are you concerned about things that do not concern you? Judge yourself first, you are in the same category with evil doers. Learn to mind your own business first

There are numerous areas we can look at but the conclusion of the matter is, before you teach others, teach yourself first and correct others only in the areas you have judged yourself first
