MATHEW 23:1-15. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

HYPOCRISY

Its interesting that of all the sins that Jesus, to this particular sin of hypocrisy, He dedicated a whole chapter on it.

Trying to look back in the previous chapters; we can conclude that in the eyes of Jesus, the sins which He considers greatest are PRIDE and HYPOCRISY since they are the ones He condemned most.

He said to the crowds and the disciples to listen to the Scribes and Pharisees since they interpreted the law of Moses, but never to know their example because they never practiced what they taught.

Are you among them; are you an example of what you teach? Or do you just tell people to do things which you yourselves don't do even if they are in the law?

Become first of all a doer before you teach and only teach what you yourself have practiced.

They tie heavy burdens on people but they themselves are not willing to move even with a finger.

They make so many demands on people saying you must do this, you must do this, but just like Pharaoh's taskmasters, they expect it to be done exactly and at the appointed time without they themselves offering any help, and they are very much irritated and angry when not done accordingly.

Do you make demands on people and have high expectations and yet don't offer any help towards the accomplishment? You are a Pharaoh's taskmaster; repent from hypocrisy.

All they do is to be seen by men and make their clothes that they will be different from others in a way to be noticed by men. They love the place of honour and the highest places in gatherings and the churches. They love being respected and being called Rabbi, or leader.

Do you love recognition and honour. Do you earnestly desire respect before men as the one who does this and that in the church or one who have accomplished this and that? Do you get hurt when no one recognises you and you are treated just like any other person?

Don't have such high thoughts about yourself.

Jesus says we are all brothers and Jesus is our teacher and leader and we are all students in His class, though we are all in different classes, some are in kindergarten and others are in higher classes, but all of us are students and Jesus is our teacher and we are all children of one Father in heaven.

The servant of others shall be the greatest of all for whoever humbles himself will be exalted and whoever exalts himself will be humbled.

Hypocrisy and pride made the Pharisees and the scribes become a hindrance to others who wanted enter Gods kingdom.

The character we portray on Sundays during the service if it's not the same we show at home or in the school or at the place of work, we are a hindrance to others who would have entered God's kingdom.

If you are a hypocrite you are a hindrance.

They also took advantage of the widows and to cover it up, they made long prayers and thus will receive greater condemnation.

Do you take advantage of others especially the weak and try to cover it up? Do you pretend that there is nothing wrong with what you have done when your conscience is already convincting you?

They are went for evangelism to convert people but their concerts become twice a child of hell. Before they came the convert was already on their way to hell, after they came, they gave them a false hope of entering heaven and because of their hypocritical lives, their concerts take sin lightly but think that because they said the sinners prayers that they will definitely be in God's kingdom; if they die in their hypocritical conditions they will be surprised to wake up in hell for hell is the place of the hypocrites.
