LUKE 9:38-62. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

A man sought Jesus to heal his son who was demon possessed who the disciples were unable to heal. He rebuked them for their unbelief and healed the boy. People were amazed at the mighty power of God.

We see that there is no single problem which Jesus scratched His head wondering what to do. He had a solution for every problem. The good news is that He is still the same, He has not changed. Whatever your problem is, Jesus has a solution to it. Take it to Him in faith and where there is darkness you will see light.

Jesus told His disciples that He'll be delivered to the hands of men. They did not understand this statement but they did not understand for it was concealed from them and they were afraid to ask.

We learn here that unless God opens our eyes to His word, we read our bibles and listen to sermons and still get nothing out of it. It is God who opens our eyes and heart to understand His word.

It's always good to ask God to open our eyes to understand His word as we read or listen to it lest we remain blind with our bibles open.

The disciples began arguing who was the greatest and Jesus took a child by His side and said whoever receives the child receives Him and the greatest among them is the least. The main thing about a child is humility and sincerity. The humbler we are the greater we are in Gods eyes.

John said they had forbidden a man who casted out demons in Jesus name because he didn't follow Him and Jesus answered that He should not be hindered.

We can learn hear not to despise other disciples in other churches because they do some things differently from us. We need to learn to appreciate others who are serving God in different churches and ministries rather than judging and criticizing them.

Jesus was determined to go to Jerusalem and the Samaritans didn't receive Him because He was going to Jerusalem. We see here that Jesus was never received everywhere and He never got offended, He had learnt to be content in every situation. His disciples asked whether they should call fire to consume them but He rebuked them saying that they never knew the kind of spirit they were. Jesus never came to destroy men's lives but to save them

What about you. Do easily get offended because you were never treated as would have expected or given what you thought you deserved because of how important you think you are? Are you better than Jesus? He never got offended. Learn from Him and follow Him. Learn to bless even those who don't receive you and not wish them evil.

Even those who don't receive you and curse you, Jesus died for them.

They went to another village. Someone said that He will follow wherever He goes and Jesus said that foxes have holes and birds of air have nest ms but the son of man has nowhere to lay His head.

Have you decided to follow Jesus? Do follow Him only when it's convenient? What about when there is shame, will you still follow Him? When you get criticized and maligned and accused falsely, will you still follow? When things don't go your way, will you still follow?

Another asked to follow but be allowed to go first and bury his father and Jesus said the dead should bury tbeir dead.

Jesus will not accept a second position in your life. He has to be first in everything. Family and others should not be a hindrance in following Jesus wherever He goes. Have you made up your mind that Jesus will have the first position in everything in your life and no family member or anything will come between you and Christ?

He said that when you have made up your mind to follow Him, there is no turning back. Have you counted the cost.

Are you willing to pay.

The song goes...

I have decided to follow Jesus*2. No turning back*2

The world behind me the cross before me*2 no turning back*2

Though none go with me, I still will follow*2 no turning back*2

Though I may wonder I still will follow*2 no turning back*2

You are blessed to be a blessing
