THE ULTIMATE WEAPONS
THE FEAR OF GOD
There are many traps that the enemy places our way that we may fall in. There are too numerous and there are still many more he is continuing to set us up. How shall we escape all these. We don't have to know all of them. We only need one thing; the fear of God.
Prov 14:27 says that the Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.
A snare is something that is deceptively attractive that catch you unawares.
The wages of sin is death.
There are many attractives things and thoughts along the way which are to trap us into sin, but if we have the fear of God in our hearts, we will escape all of them no matter how many they are and no matter how deceptive they are.
What is the fear or reverence for God? It is the fear that I may do or say something or act in a way that hurts God. A person who has reverence for the Lord is always judging himself because they don't want to hurt God.
You may fear that God may hurt you. This is not reverence for God. Here self is in the centre. It's about how I feel, But God has to be in the centre. It's about not hurting God.
A good example is in Genesis 20:1-11
Abraham went to Gerar and lied that Sarah was her sister and Sarah also said Abraham was his brother and his the fact they were a couple. Abimelech took Sarah to be his wife and that night God appeared to him in a dream and told him that he was a dead man for taking another man's wife. Abimelech replied that he had done it in the integrity of his heart and innocency of his hands.
God said that he saw the integrity of his heart and that is why he kept Abimelech from sinning against him.
Abraham later said that he thought there was no fear of God. Vs 11
God did not allow Abimelech to commit adultery because He saw integrity in his heart. God has not changed. Why does he allow many believers fall into adultery and fornication. From this story we can say, because when God looks at their heart, He doesn't see integrity. There is no fear of God before there eyes. Many try to justify themselves. But whenever you justify yourself after sinning, you are actually always blaming God for failure to keep you. When you justify yourself, you say God is guilty and I can innocent. That's outright pride.
Learn to take the blame for your sins and God will deliver you from its power. Don't Blame anyone else like Adam blamed Eve. Learn to take 100% responsibility for your sins. Don't say so and so provoked or tempted me. Say to yourself, that God did not keep me then because there was no integrity in my heart and I didn't fear him.
No matter the provocation or the temptation, God's grace is enough to keep you in that hour. Failure is never on God's side but man's.
WATCHING AND ALWAYS PRAYING
Jesus warned His disciples to watch and pray that they may not enter into temptations. Mathew 26:41
From this verse we see that the reason people enter onto temptation is because they don't watch and pray. It has to be both. You can watch and not pray, and you can pray and not watch. You have to do both. Watch and pray.
Our bodies are weak against temptations and we can fall anytime in any temptation. Never rely on your past experiences and think that I cannot fall in this temptations.
Be always on guard and always asking for grace to overcome every temptation. It's not enough to pray in the morning and evening, in your heart, as you do your work, be praying to God for grace. When you are tempted or provoked by others, pray in your heart for a way of escape. Don't say I prayed in the morning. Pray even now in your when under pressure. Don't wait to fall to ask forgiveness, but pray before falling to experience victory.
Be always praying. Be always watchful. Temptations are always knocking. Never open the door.
