OVERCOMING THE DEVIL

God in His wisdom did not destroy the devil but allowed him to exist. He never took away his gifts and abilities which He had given him just as if you gave a birthday gift to a friend you’d not ask for it even if the fellowship is broken. It is the same gifts that he uses to deceive many but God has made provision for us to overcome Him.

What made the devil fall according to Ezekiel 28:1-8 and Isaiah 14:12-15 pride was in the heart, ‘pride starts in the heart, what you think of how important you are.’ Pride was in his wisdom, understanding, knowledge, riches, beauty, glory and skills.

In His heart he said. “I WILL” Five times and rebelled against the authority of a perfect God. Selfishness also is in the heart

We therefore conclude that the fall of satan was due to pride, selfishness and rebellion against authority. If we want to overcome the devil, we must go the opposite of his way, that is in humility denying ourselves and submission to authority.

In 1Pet 5:5-9, the bible says about humbling ourselves for God opposes the proud and immediately warns us about the devil that is looking for someone to devour; in the same context, we see the way the devil devours Christians is through pride.

In James 4:6-7, after talking about humility and pride, it goes on to say that we are to resist the devil.  If pride over anything in our lives is found in us, it maybe in your abilities, achievements, or anything that makes you feel more important than others or despise anyone, we are on the same side with the devil. We have to be humble ourselves if we are to overcome the devil.

 AIDS TO HUMILITY

1.       Always realize that everything you have, God has given you. 1Cor 4:7

2.       Stop comparing yourself with others; that is the way to be a fool. 2Cor 10:12

3.       Let Jesus Christ be your standard; always compare yourself with Jesus, your prayer life, bible knowledge, accomplishments, wealth, wisdom, humility, obedience, faithfulness, attitudes to those who hurt you…. In every area compare yourself with Jesus and you’ll never have a problem with pride the whole of your life.

4.       Your value before God depends on how much He paid for you, and that is the death of Jesus Christ…but remember it was the same price he paid for that other person you’re despising…we’re equal in the eyes of God , have a sober estimate of yourself. Romans 12;3
