WHY WE DO NOT RECEIVE WHAT GOD HAS FOR US

 The journey of the children of Israel from Egypt to Canaan is well known; but what can we learn from them.

Gods will for them was that they enter the land but unfortunately only Joshua and Caled among the 600000 entered. In the same way, there are many things that God wants to give us but we do not enter into them. Let us learn from the children of Israel the cause of their failure because they are the same reasons why we never experience all that God has for us.

In Deut 1:19, the children of Israel reached Kadeshbarnea and there God told them to enter into Canaan in verse 21 and not be afraid. The people suggested before they enter 12 spies should be sent to investigate the land and the direction they were to take but the report they received from the 10 spies discouraged the people, vs 24-28

Moses reminded them of how God had carried them but remained in doubt. God then became angry and declared that none of them would enter the land except Joshua and Caleb

 

NB: Gods will was that they enter Canaan when they reached kadeshbarnea and there they provoked God

 

In Deut 2:14,it says that the time the children of Israel took from Kadeshbarnea was 38 years. We know that the whole journey in the wilderness was 40years; therefore, if from kadesbarnea it took 38years, then they must have take 2years from Egypt to Kadeshbarnea. It was Gods will that in 2years time, Israel should enter Canaan.

 

Reasons for not receiving Gods promises was;

1.       Murmuring and complaining

Numbers 14:22 says that they tempted God ten times and in most of these times they were grumbling. See Num 11:1,14:27, 16:41 Ex 15:24, 17:3

Never murmur about anything if you want to receive all that God has for you, instead pray for everything and learn to give thanks in everything

2.       Unbelief

They did not believe God when He told them to enter the land. Deut 1:32

If God gives us a promise, He is able to fulfill, don’t dout, for unbelief is insulting God and calling Him a liar; see Romans 4:21, 1John 5:10

3.       Idolatory

Being more devoted to anything more than Christ. 1cor 10:7

4.       Sexual Immorality

1Cor 10:8

We need to learn from their mistakes that what happened to them  that we may avoid them and we’ll receive all god has for us. 1Cor 10:11,Rom 15:4
