Someone has said that what we need in our generation is not more prayers but more answered prayers and this is true.
Many Christians in their experience have been frustrated because they have not received answers to their prayers and doubt whether God still answers prayers today. The bibles say that whoever asks receives, whoever seeks finds and whoever knocks the door it shall be opened unto him. Why then do many pray and not receive answers?
1. Holding grudges and having unforgiveness
If we have grudges or have not forgiven anyone, God will not hear us. Jesus said if you are offering anything to God and you remember your brother have something against you, stop giving your offering and settle matters with your brother and then come back and offer…there are many types of offering and prayer is one of them. Mathew 5:23,24 He also said when we pray forgive whoever has hurt you that God may forgive you. Mark 11:25
2. Not praying in Faith
God have given one promise to those who pray without believing that God will answer or pray with doubts as to whether He will answer or not, and that is, they should not expect to receive anything from him. James 1:6-7
3. Having unconfessed sins
Ps 66:18 says that if I cherish sin in my heart the Lord would not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2 says that God is not deaf to our prayer but our sins bring separation between us and God making us not receive answers to our prayers.
4. Praying with wrong motives
James 4:3 says that when we pray with wrong motives to spend on selfish reasons we will not receive answers to prayers.
5. Lack of the fear of God
The prayers of Jesus were heard because he feared God. Do you suppose there is any other way for you and I? Heb 5:7
6. Not praying according to the will of God.
The will of God is revealed in the word of God and our lack of studying His word makes us ignorant of His will and therefore most of our prayers are on presumption. 1John 5:14-15 says we can only have confidence that we will receive answers to our prayers only if we pray according to the will of God
7. Not praying with a clear conscience.
Our conscience is a good guide and it tells us when we are doing something wrong. If there is a matter your conscience is bothering you about which you have not settled, you will not receive answers to prayer. Always settle matters that your conscience is bothering you about. Keep your conscience clear. 1John 3:20-22
8. Not praying in Jesus Name
Finishing our prayers ‘’in Jesus Name has become a meaningless ritual.’’ It simply means that we go to God not in our merits, or our goodness or anything we have done, but simply on what Jesus has done for us. John 14:13,14
9. Not being fruitful
You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:14
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might GO AND BEAR FRUIT—FRUIT THAT WILL LAST—AND SO THAT WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME THE FATHER WILL GIVE YOU. JN 15:16
We see that God wants us to as anything but also that we bear fruit. Fruitlessness in our lives is one reason we do don receive answers to prayers.
Let us therefore fulfill the conditions we need to that we may not add to the frustrations of unanswered prayer.
