When God created us, He created us with a purpose which He wanted us to fulfill in our generation. He never made a mistake in the way He made us, our height or weight, family in which we were born, tribe, nation or even time in which we were born. He determined all that as is written in Acts 17:26.
He gave us specific abilities and gifts which are different
from each other (1Cor 12:7-11, 18, 27), he has written in His book concerning
each day of our lives what we are to do. Ps 139:16, Eph 2:10.
If God made a plan for us, the most satisfying life you can
live on earth is fulfilling your God given purpose. That is why very few Christians
have a satisfying Christian experience; many are still hungering after the lees
and melons of the world. Gods will is for us to find satisfaction in him, a
life of continuous joy and peace and at the end of our lives we should be able
to say that I have fulfilled my God-given purpose in my generation. Let’s look
at two examples in the scripture.
1.
Jesus at the end of His earthly life, said ‘’I have
brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me
to do.’’ Jn 17:4. He also said in vs 23 ‘’Then the world will know that
you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.’’
God wants the world to know He loves us the
same way that He loved Jesus. This being true, the same way God helped Jesus to
fulfill His ministry on earth, God also can help us to fulfill the purpose He
made us for on earth if we fulfill the same conditions that Jesus fulfilled. Though
Jesus was God, on earth he took the form of man and forfeited the privileges of being God, for example God never slumbers
nor sleeps(Ps 121:4) but Jesus slept(Mark 4:38). God cannot be tempted by evil
(James 1:13) but Jesus was tempted in every form of temptation where we are
tempted but never sinned (Heb 4:15). Jesus was made like us in every way (Heb
2:17).
If Jesus was made like us and tempted like
us and yet pleased God, God is also able to help us fulfill the purpose to
which He created to fulfill.
2.
The apostle Paul at the end of His life also said
that he has finished His race, he was a about 30 years old when he got converted.
According to traditions, he died when he was around 60-68years old. He wasted
about 30 years of his life yet what he did in the next 30-38yearshas blessed
the world in 2000 years. He fulfilled his purpose in His lifetime. Note that
both Jesus and Paul did not reach the age of 70
but they both fulfilled their purpose; therefore premature death is not
dying below 70 years but dying without fulfilling your God given purpose.
If we are to fulfill our God given purpose,
we need to know what the secret of their lives was.
i.
Dying to our will and choosing the will of God
every single day.
Jesus says that he came not to do His will but the will of God; John 6:38.
Paul says that he died daily, that is he died to his will and chose Gods
will every day.
There is therefore no other way for us, we must learn to die to own will
every day and choose the will of God.
ii.
An ambition to please God
Jesus says that He always did what pleased God in John 8:29 and Paul says
that he had only one goal-ambition, and that was to please God. 2Cor 5:9
There is no other way for us, we have to have the same ambition of
pleasing God in our thoughts, motives, attitudes, the way we use our tongue,
the way we handle money and in everything.
iii.
Be an example to others
Jesus
always said to His disciples follow me (Jn 1:43). Paul says to the Corinthians follow
me (1Cor 4:16, 11:1) and Phil 3:17, 4:9.
Even if so far you have wasted your life like Paul in the 1st
30 years, God can still help you fulfill your God given purpose...in the days
you were ignorant, God overlooked but now commands all men everywhere to
repent. Acts 17:30
you are blessed
