STUDY V. THE WORD OF GOD

The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. Isaiah 50:4

There are many weary and discouraged people who come along our path who only need a to hear a word of hope. If we are to have such a word that would sustain them, we must morning by morning be awakened and listen as a disciple. We must be people who listen God if God is to use us effectively to sustain others.

There is a true story of a man who had given up on life and he decided to kill himself but he decided to walk a distance of about 10km in through a busy road. He had left a note that if along the way he would meet someone who would smile at him, he would not kill himself but unfortunately of all the hundreds and perhaps more than a thousand people he met, not even one person smiled at him and he ended up killing himself. A note in his room was found written the above information.

What if Along the way he had met someone who was listening to God constantly; God would have led him to smile at him and he would not have died.

How many people have you met who may have only needed a smile from you or even to say hi to them or show them love and that would have pushed them further in life. We don't know how many deaths or accidents or losses have occurred in the lives of the people in our circle simply because we have not learnt to listen to the word of God.

You will never know what someone needs but God knows. If you learn to listen to God, God will give you a word to sustain those in your circle.

Listening to God and obeying his voice is more important that all the sacrifices we can make. 1Sam 15:22.

When Jesus arrived In the house of Mary and Martha, Martha thought that sacrifing herself to prepare lunch for Jesus and his disciples is what is most important but but Jesus rebuked her. He said what Mary did, sitting at his feet and listening to Him, that is the most important thing and it should come first. Luke 10:38-42

Listening to the voice of God is more important than all the services and sacrifices you can make for him. God is not pleased with you when you serve Him but when you listen to Him and obey.

The most effective way of living the Christian life is by always listening to the voice of God. It will be the most peaceful and restful way of living. Our fruit will abound more and more.

Jesus never initiated anything He did but always listened to what the Father would say to Him. John 5:30, 12:49, 14:10.

Is there a better way of living than the way Jesus lived?

Jesus Christ is our example in everything and also our standards.

The more we listen as He did, the more effective our life shall be.

Have you started to learn to listen to the voice of His word.

God is always speaking and you must always be listening.

STUDY IV. THE WORD OF GOD

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. Ps 33:6

God created the heavens by the word of God. Our lives which have been destroyed by sin and satan, God can make them heavenly by His word. No matter how much destroyed your life is, no matter how hopeless your case is, no matter what God condition, your life can become a heavenly life. A life full of joy and peace. A life lived in righteousness. Rom 14:17

God can make your life heavenly by His word.

The first step always is becoming born again. It's by the word of God that we get born again. 1Pet 1:23, James 1:18,21

The growth to maturity is also by His word.1Pet 2:2.

The word of God has power to transform.

The more you learn to listen to the word of God everyday, the more heavenly your life will become and wherever you are, you will create a heavenly atmosphere around you and others. Peace and joy with righteousness will accompany you always and you will be a blessing wherever you are.

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.

They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.

Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.

Ps 19:7-10

We see here that God's word transforms lives, it gives us wisdom. It brings joy in our lives, and opens the eyes of the blind. The fear of the Lord brings us to a life of purity. God is a righteous judge.

God warns us also through His word.

There are many things that we miss for not learning to listen to the word of God everyday.

Do you want to serve God? God makes His servants through His word. 2Tim 3:16-17. The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right. This is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone. (TLB)

God's word is not meant for others. It's meant for "ME".

It teaches ME, it shows what is wrong with ME, it helps ME straighten out and set right matters in MY life that needs to be set right. It helps ME do what is right.

Do you want to do God's will?

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come To do Your will, O God(the whole bible is written of ME) .’ Heb 10:7.

If you want to know the will of God, you must hear the word of God everyday. If you desire to do the will of God, it is written already in your bible.

With a closed bible, be sure to walk in blindness all your life.

The choice is yours.

Love to hear the word of God speak to you every day.

Remember, the more you hear God's word in your heart, the more peaceful your life will become.

STUDY III. THE WORD OF GOD

OUR GUIDE

Psalm 119:105 says that Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

A lamp at my feet means that it shows me only the next step. Unless I take the step I see, God will not show me other steps. Someone has said that your next assignment is in your last obedience. Don't expect God to speak to you unless you have obeyed what He has already shown you.

The path we are walking in is full of darkness. Isaiah 60:2 says the world will be full of darkness. For us to walk without stumbling, we must have light so that we can see the hidden dangers and snares. God's word is that light.

The moment we ignore God's word and go on life ignoring it, we will discover that we stumbled along the way many times and if we had only heeded the word, we would have stood and made much more spiritual progress than we have.

We must learn to treasure Gods word above money, fame, honour of men, and everything else. Prov 2:1

Job 23:12 says that Job esteemed God's word more than His necessary food. Necessary food refers to food that you need to survive. Gods word was more important than his daily survival food.

How precious is Gods word to you? If you value God's word you would study it daily.

The fact that many don't read God's word is the clearest proof that it's not important to them. It's is the main reason many are staggering in darkness not knowing which way to turn. They are in darkness. If you have light, you will make much more progress spiritually than when you are trying to walk in darkness.

Make God's word your guide in this dark path. Treasure it. Don't rely on what you hear on church. You must hear God's word everyday. You must make progress everyday and you need light everyday. Treasure Gods word more than your daily food. Value it above everything else.

Don't grope in darkness when light is free.

Learn to listen to God's voice daily.

STUDY II. THE WORD OF GOD

If we are to live the most useful life on earth, we must develop the art of listening to the word of God every day. We must believe first of all that God loves us intensely, there is no wiser plan we can make for ourselves better than the one He has made for us. He has all the power to fulfill that plan through us. But God has made it in such a way that we have to cooperate with him by listening to Him and acting on His word. We are coworkers with God. If we don't cooperate, then God's plan for our lives will be frustrated.

Jer 29:11-13 tells us that God has good plans for us, but we have on our side to seek Him wholeheartedly for those plans to be fulfilled.

As we listen to God constantly, our lives becomes better and better. We become more and more like Christ. You are a better person at the end of every year than you were at the beginning.

Gen 1:2-

The earth was empty, formless and dark. Our lives also can be formless, empty and dark, but that not the end. Everyday God spoke and the earth responded. The result after the response was that God saw it was good. It kept on becoming better and better until finally God said that it was very good. Gen 1:4,10,12,18,25,31.

We leave that when we listen and respond to God's voice everyday, we will become better and better just like a student goes from one class to the next after listening to what their teacher teaches and prove by passing exams.

We must live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Mat 4:4

You can be busy doing a lot of things but if you learn to listen to God, you will love the most satisfying Christian life, full of Joy and peace. You will easily overcome life's challenges and you will say as Paul, "Thanks be to God who always helps us to overcome" 2Cor 2:14

THE WORD OF GOD.

STUDY I

When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness to turn the stones into bread so that He can eat for He was hungry after fasting for forty days, and He had power to do it, and that should prove that He was the Son of God, He said that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Mathew 4:1-4. In other words, God has not told Him to turn stones into bread. He was listening to God.

Though, Jesus had power, when He took the limitations of man, and had to demonstrate to humans how God wanted man to live, by being an example, He showed us that when God gives us spiritual power, spiritual authority, and spiritual gifts, they are not to be used for our selfish purposes. We must listen to the words that proceeds from the mouth of God. Paul says that God gives us spiritual gifts so that we can bless others. 1Cor 12:7.

We have to develop the habit of listening to God to be able to use effectively the gifts that He has given us. God is constantly speaking, but unfortunately, many of His children have not learnt the art of listening.

Many say that God does not speak to them, thus blaming God, instead of blaming themselves. "The word that proceeds from the mouth of God" is in present continuous tense.

If you don't hear God speaking to you, it's not that God is silent, but that you are not listening.

We must learn to wait on God and listen to Him if we want to live in the most effective way possible spiritually.

If God is speaking, we must be proud not to listen to Him. Not to listen to God is the same as telling Him that we are wiser than Him.

Jesus said many times that He couldn't do anything from His own initiative but as he hears, He judges. John 5:30, 8:28, 12:49, 14:10.

The secret of Jesus ministry is that He listened to God constantly. He is to be our example. We must develop that art of listening to God all the time for us to be effective on earth in fulfilling the purposes that God has for our lives.

STUDY XVI. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

BRIEF SUMMARY

We have learnt that when one becomes a child of God, they enter into a spiritual battle with satan and his demons.

If we don't fight, the enemy will not stop his attacks and therefore we must never think of making a peace treaty with satan. We must face him headon standing on the victory of the cross. Remember he is a defeated foe, and all his armour was taken on the cross and the position that God has appointed for him is under our feet. God in His wisdom did not destroy him But allows him to attack his children so that we can become and strong. He has made provision of all we need in facing the enemy. We are not helpless nor hopeless but strong with God on our side.

Remember if you have completely yielded and surrendered your life to God, he will give you all the wisdom, all the strength, all the knowledge and understanding, all the health, all the encouragement, all the warnings, all the grace, , the fellowship we need, and all the resources we will ever need in our lives on earth, to live a godly life and fulfil his purpose on earth, God will provide.

Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy, Lk 10:19, but unless we use that authority, the devils schemes to steal, kill and destroy our lives, destinies and anything associated with us will succeed. We must rise up and resist the enemy by the authority we have received from Jesus.

Our minds are the first battlefield find and satan casts thoughts of fear, unbelief, bitterness, anger, accusations... and we must reject this thoughts. We must take them captives and think only on what God has promised. We ought to only think about things that are pure, true, honourable, right, lovely, admirable, excellent and things that are worthy of praise. Phil 4:8

There is no human being who is our enemy, no matter how much they harm us, we have only one enemy and that is the devil.

We must never fight with humans, nor argue or strive or try to prove a point if we are to successfully fight the enemy.

We have been given the weapons to fight the enemy;

1. THE NAME OF JESUS. At the mention of this name, every knee of everything in heaven, on earth and under the earth must bow.

2. THE BLOOD OF JESUS which silences every accusation of the enemy.

3. PRAYER AND FASTING which breaks yokes and sets the captives free from all captivity of the enemy.

4. THE WORD OF GOD which is our sword against the enemy.

5. THE PROMISES OF GOD which should be the confessions in our mouth. Jesus Christ is the high priest of our confession. Heb 3:1, we must never confess defeat, no matter what situation we are in. Our lips should only confess what God has promised.

6. THE FEAR OF GOD which helps us avoid all the traps the devil set along the way.

7. DEATH TO SELF-WILL which defeats the enemy by not giving him a chance through our own selfish desires.

8. PRAISE AND WORSHIP which makes a throne for God in our lives

9. THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which breaks every yoke of the enemy.

Make sure you use every weapon give. One is not enough. In Gods wisdom, He saw it necessary to give us all these, it would therefore be foolish if we decide to neglect even one. Use them all.

The Christian has a protective armour from God which is truth, righteousness, salvation, Peace in our conscience, and faith.

The enemy uses pride to devour us. We must seek therefore to always live a life of humility. Humble yourself before God and then resist the devil, he will flee from you.

The devil fears a righteous humble man.

Anger, unforgiveness, grudges and bitterness give access to the enemy in our lives.

Ignorance of the truth also gives the devil an opportunity to make God's children his captives and also destroy them. It's only as we know the truth that we are set free.

Deception also is a weapon of the enemy and we must love the truth and never seek to justify ourselves if God is to protect us from Deception. 2Thes 2:9-11

Murmuring and complaining are the ways we enthrone the devil and tell him that he is in control of our situations. In murmuring and complaining, we either proclaim that God is helpless in our circumstances or that He is dead. We must replace that with praise and Thanksgiving.

Occultic objects our home nullifies our war against the enemy. They make us get defeated and we must destroy them from our lives.

STUDY XV. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

OCCULTIC ITEMS

When apostle Paul preached in Ephesus, many who practiced magic brought their books together and burnt them.

When they got converted, they burnt everything that belonged to occult and witchcraft. But Why? Because if they kept these items, the devil would have used them as a legal ground to attack them.

Jesus said that the devil could not find anything belonging to him. Nothing in character nor what he possessed. John 14:30

Achan, took an accursed thing and hid it in the days of Joshua. Joshua didn't know and when they went to fight with a small town Ai, they were defeated before them. Joshua 7:1-15

Joshua sought answers from God for the reason for defeat yet God had promised him victory. This should always be our response when what God has promised seems to fail. Seek God to open your eyes to know where the door has been opened.

God told Joshua that Israel had sinned for taking an accursed item.

Joshua 7:12Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, for they have become accursed. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy the accursed things from your midst.

After removing the accursed thing from their midst, God gave them victory over their enemies.

Therefore, if there is something accursed, such as witchcraft item, occultic items, magic, even if they look innocent or you received them as a gift, you must destroy them and remove them from your house otherwise you will not overcome the enemy if you try to resist him. You have opened doors for him and you must close them.

Don't give the devil a legal ground through such items. Burn them.

STUDY XIV. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

HOW TO FIGHT

Jesus said in Mark 3:27 that you cannot enter a strong man's house and spoil his goods except you first bind the strong man.

The first thing is to bind the strong man, that is, the devil and his demons and all their activities, in an area or a home. You bind him using your mouth, through your confessions.

Peter says that we resist him steadfast in the faith. 1Pet 5:9. You have to resist the enemy in Jesus name. Don't just accept anything that comes, many things that comes in our lives are the works of satan. Many failures and sickness are part demonic manipulations.

Don't embrace them but resist them.

Resist him in faith; not in fear; believing and trusting God's promises and proclaiming them. For lack of knowledge, many embrace in their lives what they should resist. You have a responsibility of using your weapons to fight the enemy.

James 4:7 tells us to submit to God, then resist the devil and he will flee from us. Humility before God gives us authority over the devil, that he will no walk away, or run away, but rather, flee for his life.

You have to be a humble person if you are to successfully wage war against the enemy.

The sons of sceva went to cast demons and they demons didn't listen to them. Instead, they were beaten and fled away naked for trying to cast out a demon. They didn't live in fellowship with God and they tried to do what they had seen Paul do. Act ,19:13-16

This shows the danger of trying to fight satan when you have no relationship with God. When you are proud of when you are living in sin. Don't try to fight satan if you are indulging in sin, if you are proud of you have not submitted to God fully or not obeyed what God has told to you.

You will only bring destruction upon yourself.

Jesus overcame satan by stating what was written in God word. Mathew 4:1-10. We have to proclaim the word of God.

In our fight, the part of our body we use most is our tongue. In the day of Pentecost, a tongue of fire sat upon everyone in the house. This is to say that our tongues must be on fire.

Isaiah 51:16 says that God has put his word on our mouth to plant the heavens. Through our mouth, God is able to create a heavenly atmosphere wherever we are. Jesus often said, peace be with you. Peace and joy are part of the heavenly atmosphere. Rom 14:17. God wants to use our mouth. He will not take it part time or in a contract. It has to be used by him everyday.

The devil cannot use your tongue in speaking lies, and evil and cursing and blasphemy, and slander and gossip, and then you try to use the same tongue to resist him. he will laugh at you because you are powerless against him.

If you give your tongue to satan in weekdays and then try to preach to others on Sunday, God will not use your tongue to bless others. There will be no anointing in your words. You must live a consecrated life, a holy life if God is to anoint you to speak on His behalf.

Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us that we do not fight against human beings. If you want to fight the devil, you must decide that you will never fight with any human being. You will never argue or try to prove a point, you will not strive, you will reserve 100% of your energy to only fight the devil.

2Cor 10:4-7 tells us that satan attacks us in our thoughts and we must learn to reject every thought that satan whispers to us. We must leave to reject and resist anything that is not of God. Don't embrace situations and say that things never work for me, or such things. You must learn to declare that with God, all things are possible and that God is on your side against the devil.

The devil is always seeking to control and manipulate us. Know that THE PLACE GOD HAS APPOINTED FOR THE DEVIL IS UNDER YOUR FEET. Rom 16:20

STUDY XIII. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

THE ULTIMATE WEAPONS

THE FEAR OF GOD

There are many traps that the enemy places our way that we may fall in. There are too numerous and there are still many more he is continuing to set us up. How shall we escape all these. We don't have to know all of them. We only need one thing; the fear of God.

Prov 14:27 says that the Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.

A snare is something that is deceptively attractive that catch you unawares.

The wages of sin is death.

There are many attractives things and thoughts along the way which are to trap us into sin, but if we have the fear of God in our hearts, we will escape all of them no matter how many they are and no matter how deceptive they are.

What is the fear or reverence for God? It is the fear that I may do or say something or act in a way that hurts God. A person who has reverence for the Lord is always judging himself because they don't want to hurt God.

You may fear that God may hurt you. This is not reverence for God. Here self is in the centre. It's about how I feel, But God has to be in the centre. It's about not hurting God.

A good example is in Genesis 20:1-11

Abraham went to Gerar and lied that Sarah was her sister and Sarah also said Abraham was his brother and his the fact they were a couple. Abimelech took Sarah to be his wife and that night God appeared to him in a dream and told him that he was a dead man for taking another man's wife. Abimelech replied that he had done it in the integrity of his heart and innocency of his hands.

God said that he saw the integrity of his heart and that is why he kept Abimelech from sinning against him.

Abraham later said that he thought there was no fear of God. Vs 11

God did not allow Abimelech to commit adultery because He saw integrity in his heart. God has not changed. Why does he allow many believers fall into adultery and fornication. From this story we can say, because when God looks at their heart, He doesn't see integrity. There is no fear of God before there eyes. Many try to justify themselves. But whenever you justify yourself after sinning, you are actually always blaming God for failure to keep you. When you justify yourself, you say God is guilty and I can innocent. That's outright pride.

Learn to take the blame for your sins and God will deliver you from its power. Don't Blame anyone else like Adam blamed Eve. Learn to take 100% responsibility for your sins. Don't say so and so provoked or tempted me. Say to yourself, that God did not keep me then because there was no integrity in my heart and I didn't fear him.

No matter the provocation or the temptation, God's grace is enough to keep you in that hour. Failure is never on God's side but man's.

WATCHING AND ALWAYS PRAYING

Jesus warned His disciples to watch and pray that they may not enter into temptations. Mathew 26:41

From this verse we see that the reason people enter onto temptation is because they don't watch and pray. It has to be both. You can watch and not pray, and you can pray and not watch. You have to do both. Watch and pray.

Our bodies are weak against temptations and we can fall anytime in any temptation. Never rely on your past experiences and think that I cannot fall in this temptations.

Be always on guard and always asking for grace to overcome every temptation. It's not enough to pray in the morning and evening, in your heart, as you do your work, be praying to God for grace. When you are tempted or provoked by others, pray in your heart for a way of escape. Don't say I prayed in the morning. Pray even now in your when under pressure. Don't wait to fall to ask forgiveness, but pray before falling to experience victory.

Be always praying. Be always watchful. Temptations are always knocking. Never open the door.

STUDY XII. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

THE POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP.

Ps 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. God is enthroned when we praise Him. In other words, you make a throne for God when you praise Him. The enemy cannot be where God is dwelling. He has to free. Therefore instead of complaining and murmuring when you face a difficult situation, learn to praise God and thank Him.

Jehoshaphat when going to war against his enemies, he put worshippers before the enemy who went singing and praising the Lord for His mercies endures forever. God ambushed their enemies and they killed each other and the only thing Jehoshaphat did was to go and collect the spoils. God is still the same, when you learn to praise Him in the midst of the battle, He comes and fights your enemy.2Chron 20:10-25

Ps 149:6-

Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands—to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute the judgment written against them. This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones. Praise the Lord!

The mouth of Gods people should always be full of Gods praise. In this we bind all the activities of the devil and his demons. The devil hates it when we learn to praise and thank God even in difficult circumstances.

Do you know what is the longest book in the bible? Of course it's Psalms.

Do you know what psalms are? They are songs of praising God.

So what should we do the longest part of life? We should spend the longest part of our life praising God and thanking Him.

Note that whenever you complain and murmuring about anything, you are dethroning God and enthroning the devil. You are saying that the devil is in control of that particular situation that you are in and that God is helpless in that particular situation.

Is there anything too hard for God? Get rid of all complaining and murmuring in your life. Fill your heart and mouth thanking God and praising Him for everything.

1Thes 5:18 says that we should thank God in every situation for this is the will of God.

Phil 2:14 says that we should do everything without murmuring and complaining.

THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Isaiah 10:27

So it will be in that day, that his burden will be removed from your shoulders and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be broken because of the anointing.

Whatever burden or yoke or oppression the devil may have placed on you, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is able to break it. This is the reason we must seek to always be filled with the Holy Spirit. Don't be satisfied with your past experiences but you must seek to be filled afteshed every single day.

But You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.

Ps 92:10

STUDY XI. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

KNOWING THE ENEMIES TECHNIQUES

DECEPTION & IGNORANCE. THE DEVILS MASTERPIECE.

Hosea 4:6 says that my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The enemy comes to steal kill and destroy. John 10:10.

Isaiah 5:13 says that God's people are enslaved because of lack of knowledge.

Ignorance of God's people gives the enemy a greater advantage to destroy and enslave them. We have to respond by seeking knowledge of God's word that we may be free. Jesus says that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. John 8:32

Prov 11:9 says that the righteous shall be delivered through knowledge. It is the people who know their God that shall be strong and do exploits.

Seek to know Gods word. Don't wait for your pastor to read it to you on Sundays. Be hungry soak yourself in God's word. Devour it like a hungry lion. It's your deliverance. Seek to know God in prayer. Walk with Him daily. Grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus.

It is through the knowledge of our Lord Jesus that we find and receive everything pertaining to life and godliness and this also prevents us from being barren but always fruitful. 2Pet 1:3-10

1Tim 4:1 says that in the last days, many shall fall away from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. Seduction is the art of enticing someone from their current position to where you want them to be.

There are demons who's work is to seduce Christians away from the truth. They whisper that sin is not so serious, God is full of love, he will not cast anyone to help, they whisper that obedience is legalism and that grace means that God has changed His mind about sin.

The greatest lie is that once you are saved, you are always saved. You can never lose your salvation, however you live, simply because God is good. Many will listen to this enticement and lose their guard and start compromising in small things. They get hardened against sin and they can sin, they can lie, commit sexual immorality, blaspheme, speak evil of others without their conscience disturbing them.

Beware when you lose sensitivity to sin. Sin is serious.

Are there things you stopped doing when you got born again and now you are slowly going back to that vomit? Are there things you couldn't do in the first year of your Christian life that you are doing? Is your conscience becoming less sensitive or more sensitive to sin.

Jesus warned about deception in the last days. He warned that many preachers who do miracles signs and wonders and healings and many who call themselves prophets are deceivers. The first sign that you are listening to a false prophet is that you lose sensitivity to sin, and they bind you to them. Mat 24:10-12, Mark 13:22

Not all miracles are from God. Not all healings are from God and not all prophesies are from God.

John warns that we should not believe every spirit but test them to see whether they are from God. 1John 4:1, 1Thes 5:21. Test everything. Hold fast what is good. You should never listen to anyone with your mouth open nor assume that they are Gods messager. There are many preachers who are the mouthpiece of satan to deceive. Test everything they say or teach against the word of God. Be a Berean. Check with the word of God even if it is the apostle Paul himself preaching to you. Acts 17:10-11

Many will come to you in Jesus name, do miracles, perform healing, prophesy and yet live in sin privately. Jesus will say to them, depart from me for I never knew you, You workers of iniquity. Mathew 7:21-23. In the last day the most important thing will not be about your ministry but your relationship with sin especially in private.

Jesus warned that if a blind man leads a blind, both will fall in a ditch. Mat 15:14

Never give your heart to a mortal man. My Son, give me your heart. Prov 23:26.

There are still true shepherds but they are few. These feed the sheep not try to impose themselves on them or control them. Jer 3:15, Ezek 34:1-13, John 21:15-17

 THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

DISTRACTIONS.

The enemy has specialised in distracting Gods children from things that have eternal value to temporary things. He knows that when our minds are set on heavenly things, he is powerless against us and he wants to have power over us.

Jesus warned His disciples to watch and pray lest they enter into temptations, for the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Mat 26:41.

As long as we are watchful and prayerful, the devil is helpless against us. We must always be on guard and always prayerful that we'll not be counted those who have fallen victim of the enemies techniques. Don't let anything distract you from the place of prayer and never allow the thoughts that "it has gone well with me all these years, it will continue to be well with me" no, you have to be on your guard all the time. The devil is always seeking for an opportunity from you. Don't give him a place.

Luke 8:13-14

Tells us that testings that God's people go through make them fall away. Other distractions are cares of this world, deceitfulness of riches, and pleasures of this life also distract Gods people from bringing the fruit to maturity.

1John 2:15-17

Tells us that the desires of the flesh, the desire to buy everything you see, the desire for fame, reputation, power and influence, are the reasons people don't do the will of God.

Jesus told Martha that she was distracted by many things but only one thing was necessary; to sit down at Jesus feet and listen. Luke 10:41-42

She was not distracted by evil things. She was just busy in the kitchen preparing lunch for Jesus and His disciples. She was hardworking and selfless for Jesus but Jesus told her that that distracted her. Serving God can also be another form of distraction. You must learn to sit first and listen.

You must set your mind on the right priorities otherwise the devil will distract you from the main goal in life.

Be on guard always.

STUDY IX. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

KNOWING THE ENEMIES TECHNIQUES

Paul warns the Corinthians that he was afraid that they may be deceived in their minds by the serpent from their simple, pure devotion to Christ. 2Cor 11:3.

We see here that the most important thing to a child of God is the simple, pure, undivided devotion to Christ. Eve was deceived from parting from the tree of life to instead taking of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Simple, pure devotion to Christ is the tree of life that we need to partake of by the devil gets us sidetracked from it and we begin thinking in our minds that there is something else more important than that.

Someone said that if the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy.

It's not always bad things, it can even be ministry.

If the devil makes you think that what we call , "doing ministry" is the most important thing, and we live ignore simple devotion to Christ; we will be weared and then destroyed.

If we don't make simple, pure, devotion to Christ the most important thing, no matter how busy we will be in "ministry", we will not even accomplish even 10% of all that God wants to accomplish through us.

God does not want your "ministerial activities" He wants your love.

He says to the Ephesus pastor who was busy in ministry, worked very hard, endured for the gospel, tested the servants who claimed to be of God and found them liars, endured for the name of Christ and didn't grow weary, hated deeds that God hated,...

Yet with all this qualities, God called this pastor a backslider who had fallen so badly that that unless he repented, God would withdraw His presence from his church.

Rev 2:1-7

If a church or a person is busy serving God, it is no indication that God is with them. This church continued with their church activities but God withdrew His presence because they left their first love.

It's is love that God wants from us. Jesus asked Peter whether he loved Him more than the fish He gave Him three times. When Peter said yes, that he loved Him, He told him to feed His sheep.

Do you love Jesus more than the physical blessings that He gives you or have you fallen in love with the gift more than the giver. Are you taken up with the gift or the giver.

Ps 73:25 says, whom have I in heaven but you, and there is nothing I desire on earth besides you.

This is the devotion God's wants from us. There is nothing attracts you to heaven, not the mansions, not the angels, not even the saints, but Jesus Himself, and even now as you live, Jesus is the only one you desire, not blessings, not gifts and not even ministry.

Being busy for God does not mean that you love God. You maybe trying to cover up a hidden sin, and God will not accept your service and offering and sacrifices that you may give.

Micah 6:3-8- God doesn't want all our sacrifices, and gifts and services, when we are still living in sin. It's like serving food on a plate that was in a sewage without cleaning it first, however good intentioned you are, God will not accept it. Even the whole nights prayers, God will not even listen. Whatever we do as a substitute for obedience is never acceptable to God.

Isaiah 1:11-18, says the same thing, God will never accept anything we do for Him if we are unwilling to turn from sin.

Ps 51:17-19, God only accepts what we do for Him righteousness.

Do you love the Lord Jesus?

He says that if you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15

It's not sentimental, emotional love, but one that leads to to obey Him and want to please Him in everything and displease Him in nothing. One that makes you better taken up with the Lord, not ministry or gifts or position or anything temporary.

It's easy to say and sing that I love Jesus, but it's hard to prove it in everydays activities.

Have you been led astray in your mind to think serving God is more important than your simple pure devotion to Christ? Change your mind and decide that simple pure devotion to Christ will be the most important thing in your life.

Don't let the devil make you Less effective by changing your value on ministry compared to simple pure devotion to Christ.

STUDY VIII. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

KNOWING THE ENEMIES TECHNIQUES III

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. Eph 4:26-27

We are told here that anger gives an opportunity to the devil. Paul therefore warns us that we should not let the day end when still under anger. It doesn't matter what the cause of the anger is, if you refuse to overcome it, you yourself have made a room enough for the devil to come and destroy you.

Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger dwells in the bosom of fools. Ecc 7:9.

If you are quick to get angry, and you allow that anger to remain in your heart, you are a fool. You are inviting the devil to destroy you.

Paul says therefore, Get rid of all ..., rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

Yeah, all the anger in your heart, you must get rid of. Never justify your anger. Self-justification is the surest way to leave a defeated life all your days. You must confess is as sin and forsake it.

Anger is one letter less that Danger. Beware.

2Cor 2:10-11

... forgive, I also forgive. ... in the presence of Christ, so that satan would not be outwit us and have advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

Unforgiveness is also another way satan gets advantage of us. There will always be people who will sin against you and satan will come to us with thoughts of bitterness and grudges and unforgiveness against those who have sinned against us. It doesn't matter what the other person has done against you, if you harbor grudges in your heart, if you are bitter against the person who sinned against you, if you don't forgive them, you yourself have given the devil an advantage over you. You will never defeat him no matter how many promises you claim, until you release the person you have a grudge against.

If fact Jesus said that when you stand to pray, forgive, for if you don't forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive you. God will not be on your side when you hold grudges. Learn to let go.

Don't wait for the other person to ask for forgiveness, whether they ask or not, decide that you will always forgive and that you will never give the devil an advantage over you by not forgiving others.

STUDY VII. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE.

KNOWING THE ENEMIES TECHNIQUES II

Peter tells us to be sober and very watchful because our adversary the devil like a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. We are to resist him firm in the faith. 1Pet 5:8-9.

In the context of this verse, 5-10, we see three techniques that he uses to destroy Christians.

The first is pride. Peter tells that that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. The devil knows that if you are proud, God Himself be fight against you, if you try to rise, He will push you down, if you try to go forward, He pushes you backwards. It will be very easy to destroy you then. God is only on the side of the humble.

James 4:6-7 talks about pride and humility and resisting the devil.

We overcome the devil if we submit to God and live a life of always humbling ourselves before God.

If you try to resist the devil when you are proud of living in sin, the devil will laugh at you

Satan was cast out of heaven due to his pride. He was proud of his position as the head of the angels, He was proud of his gifts and abilities, he was was a cherub who lead in praising God and instruments, he was proud of his beauty, he was proud of his riches, he was proud of his wisdom, he was proud of his splendor, he was proud of his environment, Eden, he was proud of his anointing, he was proud of his business abilities.

Ezekiel 28:2-17.

The fall of a creature was primarily due to pride, and that has not changed, as the saying goes, pride comes before a fall.

What are you proud of? Your good character, your education level, you position, your beauty especially for ladies, it can also be spiritual beauty, your wealth, your house, your anointing, your gifts and abilities, your reputation, your bible knowledge, your...?

The interesting thing is that God says that the pride is in the heart. Outwardly you can act humble but God is not deceived. When the devil throws thoughts of pride, reject them.

Whatever it is that you are proud of, God Himself will fight against you and destroy you. Beware of pride.

How do we overcome pride?

First we must acknowledge that whatever we have, it is God who has given us and if we have been given, we have no reason to boast before anyone else. 1Cor 4:7

Secondly we must stop comparing ourselves, or what we have with others. Those who compare themselves with others are fools. 2Cor 10:12.

Whatever you have, always and only compare it with Jesus alone. Heb 12:2.

Make Jesus your standard not human beings.

The other technique that we see the devil uses is cares of this life. Peter tells us that we should cast them to the Lord for He cares for us. Jesus warned that the seed that fell among thorns and stopped bearing fruits we those who were choked with the cares of this life. Luke 8:14. No matter how many concerns and responsibilities you have, learn to always cast them to the Lord lest the devil uses them against you to choke your spiritual life.

The other technique which Peter warns us is sufferings. Peter tells us that the sufferings are experienced by other brothers throughout the world. Don't lose faith in God because you are suffering. Peter tells us that the trials are to test our faith to make it pure like precious gold. 1Pet 1:6-7.

Don't accept the thoughts of discouragement or self-pity when under trial, or the thoughts that makes you doubt Gods love and care. They are darts of the enemy to destroy you. Resist them firm in faith. Reject them and declare God's promises.

STUDY VI. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

KNOWING THE ENEMY'S TECHNIQUES.

The devil has many strategies which he uses to destroy Christians. We saw in Ephesians that we have to put on the whole armour of God so that we can overcome the strategies of the enemy.

In the first temptation in Genesis, the devil questioned Gods word, he asked Eve, "did God really say that you shall not eat from any tree? Gen 3:1

We see that the first thing the enemy does is to make us doubt Gods word.

Eve said that God said that they should not eat it or touch it lest they die, Gen 3:3, but God had said, if you eat, you shall surely die. Gen 2:17

Eve twisted what God had said, and added, and said lest, which is a probability not assurance of death as God had said. She added and lowered God's standard on His word.

The devil said that God did not want them to be like Him, He was jealous and did not love them and that is why He gave such a restrive commandment.

The next attack is on the goodness and the character of God. He makes question whether God really loves you and forbids you to do certain things, to enjoy life as we would call today.

Eve the looked at the tree and saw it good for food and her eyes delighted in it, and was desirable to make one wise, she took and ate and gave to her husband who was with with her. Gen 3:1-6

We see here how the devil makes us think that things forbidden in God's word are good and we willingly disobey God and believe satan lies and we fall in sin. It's only then the realisation comes that what the devil promised makes you empty and naked.

If you are to fight the devil, don't argue with him. Do what Jesus did in Mathew 4:1-10, He never argued with the devil. He only said, "it is written".

When the devil comes to tempt you, tell him what is written in God word. There is a word in God's word for every temptation that we'll ever face, but it's unfortunate many are ignorant of God's word.

The devil came to Jesus when He was physically weak to tempt Him.

Even today he comes to tempt us in the moment of our weakness, when you are emotionally weak, when you have lost a loved one, when you have gone through a financial loss or lost a job. He comes and casts doubts in your mind to tell you that God has forsaken you, He no longer cares about you, nothing will ever work, he whispers that all your sacrifices has been in vain....

It is when people are desperate that they are taken advantage of. Many ladies have been taken advantage of because of their desperation for job, or a child or marriage, and give in to sexual immorality and others when they are hurt broken, the devil whispers to them to avenge the man who hurt them by giving their bodies to other men, and thus ruining their own lives.

When you are weak, be very careful, and when the devil whispers discouragement, tell him what is written and never try to argue with him like Eve.

STUDY V. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE.

THE CHRISTIAN ARMOUR

2Cor 10:3-6

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.

for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of strongholds.

We destroy imaginations, arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

We see from the text that our minds is the first battlefield.

The devil builds strongholds in our minds, and give us intellectual arguments and opinions that are contrary to Christs.

We must take every thought captive and bring it to the obedience of Christ.

The devil attacks us from our minds. We must learn that not every thought that comes to us is from God. God always told His people not to fear, therefore, every thought of fear, and discouragement is from the devil and you must reject them.

The devil has successfully built fortresses in people's minds and they take it as the reality or as the way they should live, for example, you hear someone talking about a weakness they have saying, "this is the way I am", "this is what always happens in our family ", "I cannot reach such heights", "the bible is for the preachers", "I can't make it ". These fortresses must be destroyed; instead of saying "that's me", say "I am going to be better tomorrow", "instead of saying there is no way out, say that God will make a way for me. Whatever fortress you have built in your mind, especially from prejudices and those that have been formed by the surrounding you have been brought up with, you must destroy those speculations.

Rom 12:2 tells us we can only discern Gods perfect will, which is good and acceptable only if we allow our minds to be transformed in the way it thinks.

This is why the devil works to make us think in a certain way, for He knows that if he captures your thought life; you have already overcome you. Let's God's word instruct your mind. Fill your mind with God's word everyday day. Meditate on God's word and orient your mind to God's way of thinking.

Guard your mind. There are two gates to the mind. The eyes and the ears. What you watch and read and listen to goes to your mind. Guard those gates and filter what goes in, what you watch, what you read and what you listen to.

Reject every thought that is contrary to God's.

James 1:14-15

Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

We see here that before birth to sin, there is conception that takes place. This conception takes place in our minds. If you don't want to give birth, don't conceive. If you don't want to give birth to sin, don't entertain sinful thoughts but reject them. If you entertain those thoughts, be sure that you will give birth to sin. It may take time, but at the end you will have a child called sin which you gave birth to.

Eph 6:10-18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

We learn here that the devil has many tricks he uses to cause believers to fall but God wants us to stand firm even in the evil day.

The devil is always scheming and that is why we must put on the whole armour of God.

It is not our ammunition but it belongs to God. We stand in the strength that comes from God.

On our own, we are helpless against the enemy, but with God, we will defeat the enemy.

We must put on the belt of truth. Belt holds the clothes together. Without a belt , you will need to use one hand to prevent the clothes from falling but that hand is supposed to hold something else. Learn to speak the truth, speaking lies opens a way for the devil to attack and overcome us.

The helmet of salvation. The helmet protects our minds. Guard your thoughts.

Breastplate of righteousness. It guards of hearts. Living in righteousness makes the enemy reach our hearts.

Shoots from the gospel of God. They help your feet as you walk from thorns. Keeping your conscience clear and pursuing peace with all men helps us in our daily walk to avoid the devil's trap along the way.

The shield of faith quenches the fiery darts of the enemy. A shield moves in all directions to quench the attacks from all the directions. Your unshakable trust in God, to fulfill what He has promised acts as a shield.

The sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Jesus told the devil it is written. Gods word is the sword. In fact the others are protective, only the sword is offensive.

You don't win by only protecting yourself, but by protecting yourself as you fight. It's is only God's word that is for fighting; if you want to fight the enemy, you must make up your mind to soak yourself in God's word everyday.

Dig out the wells and find treasures in God's word.

He concludes by saying praying at all times, in all occasions and never ignoring any promptings by the Holy Spirit to pray.

If you have an urge to pray, never postpone it, don't say you will pray in the next hour, but pray that time you have an urge. No matter how busy you are, you can pray in your heart, you can speak in tongues under your breath as you continue with work.

Wherever you are, have the attitude of prayer. Be always communing with God in your heart. However busy you are, let your heart be communing with God. The devil will not wait for you to finish what you are doing before attacking, He will attack any time, therefore, be very vigilant, be very watchful, be sober, for your enemy like a roaring lion is seeking who to devour. But resist him steadfast in faith. Don't sign for a peace treaty with satan.

What I say to you is, WATCH. 1Pet 5:8-9, Mark 13:37

STUDY IV. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

 5. DEATH TO SELF

Jesus always said to His disciples, "Follow me".

Therefore looking at His life, we can learn from Him how to overcome the devil.

The first case we see in the temptation in the wilderness. Whenever the devil spoke to Him some, He replied by saying, "it is written ". Mathew 5:1-10

He never argued with the devil. Never try to argue with the devil, always tell him what is written in God's word. It's unfortunate that most believers wait for their pastors to read the bible for them. The only time they open their bibles is on Sundays. What a pity. How do you expect such to overcome the enemy. They will be always deceived and defeated.

Remember what Abraham told the rich man in Luke 16:19-30, that those alive had Moses and the prophets, that is a reference for the old testament which was the only bible then, but today we have both the new and the old testament.

Abraham says to those living today, you have your bible, read for yourself and believe what is written there. Don't be satisfied with man's word, read the bible for yourself.

The way Jesus ultimately overcame the devil is through death.

Heb 2:14b, through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

It is through death. This way also is the way we overcome the devil, by dying to our self-will.

For example, if someone insults you, the self life wants to insult back, but if at that moment you decide to die, you will not respond. If you insult a dead person, they will not respond no matter what you do or say to them.

The devil is a master of attacking children of God indirectly through others, but if you learn to always die to yourself everytime, you always render the devil powerless against you.

Choose to always die to yourself.

6. BUILDING YOURSELF UP.

One who is always building themselves is like one who is continually exercising. Such a person is always likely to win in every competition compared to one who doesn't exercise.

The bible tells us two ways where we can build ourselves. One is through fellowship with others. Heb 3:13 tells us to encourage one one daily lest we be hardened through deceitfulness of sin. 1Cor 14:3 says that one who prophesies builds up , encourages and comforts those who listen.

1Cor 14:26 says that when we come together in fellowship, we should use whatever gifts that God has given us to build each up.

The other way we build ourselves up is through speaking in unknown tongues.1Cor 14:4.

There are a lot of confusion about this gift and God is not the author of confusion but of peace. 1Cor 14:33. There are two extremes, those who claim that it's of the devil and it ended with the early apostles and those who claim that everyone must speak in tongues, and that tongues is the only evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Paul never said so, he said that God gives different gifts to different individuals. 1Cor 12:6-10. There is not a single spiritual gift given to all.

1Cor 12:29-30, he asks rhetoric questions which the answer is no to all of them.

He says in 1Cor 14:5 that he wished everyone could speak in tongues, meaning that not everyone spoke in tongues even then, but at the end of the chapter He says, "do not forbid speaking in tongues". 1Cor 14:39

This gift is supposed to build up one who has it.

Think of it like this, If God in heaven decided to give me a gift, He noticed that I must be in need of it. If God think I need it and gave it to me, then refusing to use it is to think I know better than Him. Deciding to use it, is to agree with Him and His wisdom in giving it.

If God has given you this gift, use it in your private prayers to build yourself up. In fact I will encourage you to spend more time speaking in tongues that praying in a language you understand.

Keep on building yourself up, through fellowshiping with other children of God, through listening to their ministration through songs and sermons and their books and articles, through reading Gods word and through speaking in tongues if God has given you the gift.

STUDY III. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

As we continue, it's good to remember that if you want to fight with the devil and overcome, you must decide to never fight with any human being or argue about anything. Learn to fight on your knees.

4. THE POWER OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS

This is another weapon that silences the accusations of the devil.

Rev 12:10b-11.The accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth— the one who accuses them before our God day and night.

And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.

We see here that the way to overcome the devil's accusations is is by the blood of Jesus and the testimony in our mouth.

For example, the devil accused us to God and to ourselves, reminding us of our past sins. When you want to pray, for example, he may remind you of all the evil you have committed and tell you that God will not listen to you. This he does in our thoughts. That is the time to speak to him and tell him that the blood of Jesus has cleansed you of all your sins, if you have repented of them already. You have to speak to the devil when he accuses you.

There is a story of a servant of God in the last centuries, who one day the devil appeared to him and wrote on a board all the sins he ever committed. The board was filled and the devil stopped writing, then told the devil that he had not written all the sins that he should continue writing, and after writing all of them, he should write at the end, 'The Blood Of Jesus Had Cleansed Me From All My Sins'.

This is the way to overcome satan accusations.

The purpose of these accusations is to make you feel depressed and discouraged and give on God, but learn to overcome this accusations by the blood of the Lamb.

4. CONFESSING GODS PROMISES IN HIS WORD.

Heb 10:23

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;

This verse encourages us to continue make confessions of God's promises over our life because He who promised is faithful. Believing and confessing Gods promises act as a shield against the enemies attacks. Eph 6:16.

When the devil throwd the darts of fear and discouragement, confess God's promises, like God will never leave me, nor forsake me, He knows every detail of what is happening to me. Heb 13:5-6

When you are faced with various trials and the devil tells you there is no hope, confess the promise, that God will not allow me to be tempted beyond my ability, and for every temptation He will make a way of escape, or God makes all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called to His purpose. 1Cor 10:13, Rom 8:28.

When there are attacks all over you, confess that no weapon fashioned against you shall prevail, and when the enemy comes one way, God will scatter him in 7 directions, and when he comes as flood, God will raise a standard against him. Isaiah 54:17, 59:19, Deut 28:7

When he tells you will die, confess that you will not die but live see the goodness of God. Ps 118:17

When he tells you that God has given up on you, say that God's loved you when you were a sinner and sent Jesus to die for your sins and He still loves you.

It's important to note that the devil does not hear our thoughts, that is why we MUST confess God's promises, not only in prayer, but when the the devil throws those thoughts in our mind.

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

We see that we have to say amen to God's promises. The promises are not to be admired, but we receive them by saying it shall be true in my life. You have to say it. You have to speak that it will be true in my life.

Stop admiring God's promises. Partake of them by declaring that it is your portion in Jesus Name.

Heb 3:1

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;

Here Jesus is called THE HIGH PRIEST OF OUR CONFESSION.

We know Jesus as our high priest, He prays for us, but we know specifically what the prayer items He takes to God are, OUR CONFESSIONS. Yes, He is the high priest of our confession. Don't underestimate the power of your confessions, Jesus joins you in them by praying to the Father using your confessions.

For example, when you confess no weapon fashioned against you shall prevail, Jesus tells that Father to send protection to you because His word cannot fail, that which you have confessed.

Heb 4:14

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

STUDY II. THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE.

We learn that our fight is not against human beings and the weapons of our warfare are not made by humans. Eph 6:12, 2Cor 10:4

It's very important to know the enemy we are fighting because he often hinds himself so that we don't recognise him.

Every child of God has strength to fight but unfortunately many fight the wrong things.

If you fight with human beings, you will never succeed fighting the devil. The devil uses strife, to drain you, and you must never strive or argue with anyone for anything. 2Tim 2:23-24. if you are serious about fighting the the devil.

Now that we know what not to do, let us us look at the weapons themselves.

1. THE POWER OF THE NAME OF JESUS.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,Phil 2:9-10

The devil and all the demons must bow at the name of Jesus.

The devil fears the name of Jesus when it is mentioned. It can destroy all the works of the enemy and we must learn to use it against the enemy.

David said to Goliath, that I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of armies...1Sam 17:45 and he slew Goliath.

Goliath is a picture of the devil. We must go against Him only in the name of Jesus Christ.

2. THE POWER OF PRAYER AND FASTING.

This is another weapon to fight against the devil. It's much neglected by modern Christianity but it has power to loose the yokes of the enemy.

Jesus said that some demons can only come out with prayer and fasting. Mathew 17:21.

There are some oppressions and attacks of the devil you may face which will only be overcome when you decide to pray and fast.

Isaiah 58:6 .“Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke?

We see here that there are some sins which may enslave you and can only be overcome through fasting.

There are yokes that make your life miserable and limit your life and make you fruitless and hinder everything you try to do or accomplish. You will live in that oppression until you get tired of it and break free from it through prayer and fasting.

Gen 27:40b

But it shall come about when you become restless, That you will break his yoke from your neck.”

Don't be satisfied with living under the oppression of the enemy, decide to break free, decide to seek God through prayer and fasting

There was a decree to kill all the jews which couldn't be changed in Esther's time but prayer and fasting made what could not be changed null and void. Esther 4,5,6,7

Pray and fasting has power to change that impossible situation and make it possible.

Jer 29:11-13 tells us that God has good plans for us, our responsibility is that we may seek Him with all our hearts and those promises would be fulfilled. Daniel having read this promise in Jeremiah, decided to pray and seek God through prayer and fasting. Dan 9:2-3.

Through this, God's promise was fulfilled in Israel.

Daniel read God's promise and he not only believed, but sought God through prayer and fasting, what about you, when you see God's promises, what else do you do?

When was the last time you fasted and prayed?

THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE.

The Christian life is not a life of relaxation but one of active warfare. We have an enemy who is always scheming against us and planning our downfall. His purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy. John 10:10. He has managed to bring many of Gods soldiers down and that is why we must be vigilant and watchful.

The sad statement in 2Sam 1:27. “How have the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished!”

The devil has many strategies and one He uses is sexual immorality.

Prov 6:26 states that For on account of a prostitute one is reduced to a loaf of bread, And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.

Prov 7:26. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

We see here that for some, the devil waits for their weak times, when they are wounded, and others when they are strong, because it's very easy when one is strong to be proud and also not be vigilant.

Many mighty, have been brought down, this should be an awakening call to us to be more vigilant. Awake because the devil is seeking to hunt the precious lives.

The bible states in 1Cor 6:13b,15, 18-20 The body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.

Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never!

Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

To be able to fight well, we must first of all decide that our bodies belong to Jesus and that Jesus alone must be glorified.

You cannot overcome the devil when you are living in sin.

If you don't fight, the devil will oppress you and you will not experience what the Lord has for you.

2Cor 10:4-For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.

We see that it's not one weapon, but weapons. They are mighty THROUGH GOD, not through us, that means, we must have a right relationship with God before using them effectively.

We punish disobedience only when our obedience is complete.

Eph 6:13

For our warfare is not against human beings, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

What are these weapons that we fight these spiritual enemies?

We'll learn in the next study.

We don't have to be victims of the enemies plan. We can stand against all the schemes of the enemies and overcome them if we know our weapons and fight with them.

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT FROM THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS.

.

These studies had the aim of trying to dig out what the gospel truly entails as compared to what we hear today. It's focus was on Math 28:19-20, which says the disciples must be taught to obey everything that Jesus. Thus, this was not to inform our minds but to lead us to obey Christ.

Having studied three books, Mathew Luke and John, there are many things that we have seen that Jesus insisted upon. We are going to try to make a summary.

√ The very first message Jesus begun preaching was about repentance. Mathew 4:17. He told the apostles to preach repentance. Luke 24:47.

It refers to changing the direction of our mind. Formerly the mind was thinking about I, my, but to repent is to reorient our mind from I to God, from my to God's. From My will to Gods will, from my plans to Gods plan, from God's plan, from my way to God's way, from what pleases me to what pleases God.

Repentance is one of the missing messages in today's Christianity. Mat 5:30, 10:28

✓ Jesus warned about sinning and said that it led to hell, a place where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. He said it's better to cut off your hand than to sin and be cast into hell. He warned the disciples to not fear men but God who can kill and cast into hell.

He warned that the religious hypocrites will also be cast into hell. Mathew 24:51.

It's very rare to hear today warnings on hell and calling people to stop sinning. Majority only hear what their ears want to hear, they will prosper and live good lives...

√ Jesus also spoke much about forgiveness. He warned that if you don't forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your sins. Mathew 6:15.

We have a generation of believers whose hearts have grudges against those who wronged them. The saddest thing is that they never hear that unless they forgive, neither will they be forgiven. Sadder still is that they never read the bible for themselves to see these things. The people in hell today have only one message to those living on earth today; they should repent. Those in heaven have only one message to those alive on earth, they should read the bible for themselves and believe what is written there. Luke 16:19-30. Unfortunately we do none.

The message to you from those who have died is that you repent and stop sinning and read the bible for yourself.

√ Another thing that Jesus said is that for you to become His disciple, your must love Jesus more than Father, mother, brother, sister , friends, your life, and your possessions. You must carry your cross everyday which is to say that where your will crosses God's will, you crucify your self-will and chose to do God's will everyday. Luke 9:23-24, 14:26-33.

This also is a missing message in today's Christianity.

√ Another thing that Jesus insisted is on obedience to His commands. He repeatedly said in John 14, 15 &16 that if you love Him you will obey His commandments. His commands are unknown to many, the commands He gave His disciples, and obedience is rare to hear.

This also is a missing message in today's Christianity.

√ Jesus also insisted on the Holy Spirit, the need and purpose. He is our helper, our teacher, He is to glorify Christ and remind us on what Christ has spoken to us. John 14:26, 15:26.

We hear about the the Holy Spirit but unfortunately He is mostly painted as a giver of gifts. The gifts most people ask for are healing and miracles, and the main reason is that they want honour of being a healer or a miracle worker. The Holy Spirit is not given to give us Honour but to transform us from the inside. He is to bring honour to Jesus. He is to reveal the glory of Christ to us and then change us so that we can be like Christ. He is to fill our hearts with divine love. Rom 5:5, 2Cor 3:18, John 15:26.

The spiritual gifts are to help you serve God in your calling. It is the Holy Spirit who chooses the gifts to give each person depending on the purpose they are to fulfill. The gifts are to bless other members in the body of Christ to help you make money. Freely you have received, freely given. 1Cor 12:7,11. Mathew 10:8

It's a challenge for each to go back to the scriptures and read the bible for yourself. Don't expect that your preacher will read it for you. You may die of spiritual hunger while in the house of bread unless you reach out for the bread yourself.

√ Jesus also spoke about money. He said that you cannot server two masters. The two masters are not God and satan, but God and money. He said it will be hard for those who trust in riches to inherit the kingdom of God. Mark 10:24, Lk 16:13.

Today we here that material wealth is how you measure how much God has blessed you. Jesus said that life is not measured by how rich you are and warned about being greedy for material wealth.

Jesus also talked much about humility. In fact He said that what we need to learn first of all is how to be gentle and humble in heart from Him. Mathew 11:29. He told the disciples that the greatest were those who took the lowest position and served others, and were last. Mat 20:27. Those who possessed the kingdom were the humble. Mathew 18:4.

He linked honesty and humility together as we have seen in many studies. He always waited for an honest acknowledgement of our need... At Cana, healing the blind... and many instances.

Jesus spoke strongly against the hypocrites and even dedicated a whole chapter on it. Luke 23.

He always to to the disciples, follow me.

It's rare to hear the call to follow in Jesus footsteps. The devil has whispered in the ears of many that is is impossible.

What have you learnt from the messages of the gospels between Mathew and Luke.

How has it blessed you?

JOHN 21:18-25.

Jesus told Peter how he would glorify God through His death. He would be dragged to where he didn't want to go. He would be executed

He told him to follow Him.

Even today, God may allow His disciples to go through suffering and difficulties, but in the midst of them, the only thing He says is, "Follow me". Don't let what you are going through distract you from seeing Jesus and walking in His footsteps.

Peter looked at John and asked Jesus, what about Him. His concern was, to also know what kind of death he would die. Should he be allowed to suffer alone or should he have a partner in the suffering. Would John die peacefully?

Jesus asked him how John would die, whether peaceful or tormented like Peter. He told him to mind His own business.

He asked how it concerned how John was to die, and Even if he decides wouldn't die, how did it concern him.

Only one thing he was to do, and that is to follow Jesus.

This is what God says today to many of His children. When God allows one to go through difficulties, and another child of God , everything seems to go on well and ones suffering begin to question why? Why should he not suffer as me, why only me?

How does it concern you how God treat others of His children, and why He doesn't allow them go through what you go through. Mind your own business. Follow Jesus. Don't be distracted by the lives of others and why they don't experience what you experience.

Let your eyes see Jesus only, follow Him wherever He leads you, whether through valleys and mountains, or through smooth road, you Follow Him. Don't be distracted.

Peter remembering this incident wrote in `1Pet 4:14, But let none of you suffer ...as a busybody in other men's matters.... prying into other people’s affairs.`

Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.

What is written is sufficient for our lives on earth.

The call is follow Jesus.

Are you following Jesus or does the lives of others distract.

Is what God allowing you to go through distracting you from the vision of Jesus?

Don't lose the vision of Jesus before your eyes.

JOHN 21:7-17. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

After the catch, John told Peter that it was the Lord. Peter immediately put on his outer garment for he had stripped for work and he threw himself in the sea. The other disciples were dragging the fish out of the sea. They saw saw charcoal fire laid and fish placed on the fire and bread. Jesus then asked for some of the fish they had caught. They had so many fish and 153 large fish.

Jesus then invited them to have breakfast. He served them bread and fish.

We see here that Jesus did not only care for their spiritual needs but also for their physical needs.

He understood how hungry the disciples were having fished the whole night in the cold without catching anything. They were extremely hungry. Jesus made fire and prepared fish and bread; but where did He get his fish and bread? The disciples had not brought theirs out of the sea. He performed a miracle just to feed them. He cared for the disciples.

He is still the same today. For His disciples, those who love Him with all their hearts, soul, mind and strength, more that their family members and friends and their wealth, those who have chosen the way of the cross, to deny their own will to do God's will, Luke 9:23, 14:26-33, to such, He will perform miracles to feed them. The disciples had not even prayed but Jesus came. He has not changed, even today He is the same.

After finishing breakfast, Jesus asked Peter whether He loved Him more than the bread and fish He gave Him. Why ask such a question? Because at that time, Peter had been so hungry that the only thing he thought of was food and how to satisfy his hunger. Have you ever been so hungry that nothing else could make sense to you but food. So hungry that you will not be choosy on the type of food you ate, whether it's well prepared or, that time when you think you can eat food meant for ten people.

If you think you were hungry but you were choosy on food, you didn't experience the hunger Peter and the disciples had that night.

Peter told Him that He loved him as a friend. He remembered he denied Jesus three times. Jesus had asked whether he loved Him with divine love.

He told Peter to feed His lambs.

He asked the second time, whether he loved Him with the divine love, Peter answered that He loved Him as a friend. He told Him to feed His sheep.

He asked Him the third time, now coming to His level, do you love me like a friend, the Peter was grieved and said that he loved him and he knew all things.

He told Him to feed his sheep.

We see here that pastoral ministry is primarily not about loving the people, but loving the Lord Jesus. It's when you love the Lord that you will give proper nutrition to the sheep.

If you don't love the Lord you will seek to please men and if you seek to please men, to say things that don't offend them, and you will never be a servant of God. Gal 1:10

Jesus begun with Peter to the level he was and would help him to rise to greater heights. It's encouraging to see that Jesus descends to our level to lift us from there. When we are honest like Peter, He was asked whether he loved Jesus with divine love but he answered that he loved Him like a friend, God could use Him because He was honest, not because he was perfect.

One requirement for God to use us is that we must be honest with Him. God already knows us from inside, there is no need to pretend to be spiritual before him in prayer when all our thoughts revolves around us, there is no need to pretend before God that we are interested in the things of God when we are not. God already knows all our interests.

God will never transform us nor use us for His highest purposes until we are honest with Him.

Do you desire that God changes you to be what He wants you to be? Then stop pretending that you are already like that, admit it that you have been pretending, and God will transform you.

Do you desire God to use you? Learn to be honest and naked before Him. He will use you.

JOHN 20:24-21:6. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

Thomas was not with the there when Jesus came and when he was told that Jesus came; He declared that unless puts his hands of the nail prints, he would not believe.

After 8 days Jesus came and spoke peace. He told Thomas to touch Him, and believe and not be unbelieving. Thomas answered Him, my Lord, and my God. Jesus told him that it's because he saw that He believed. The more blessed are those who believe without seeing.

When you believe God's word without external evidence, you are blessed indeed.

See to live a life of faith.

Jesus performance many miracles before the disciples. He didn't go back to those who crucified them and tried to prove Himself and tried to shame them, He only revealed Himself to the disciples. In the same way, we must follow Jesus here also, we must not shame those who persecuted us or crucified us after God exalts us, we shouldn't be embittered against them, nor have grudges but forgiveness and love.

The purpose of writing this book is that we should believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. And by believing you may have eternal life.

Have you believed. Do you have eternal life.

Jesus manifested Himself in the sea of Galilee to the disciples.

Simon Peter, Nathaniel, Thomas, the sons of Zebedee were together and Peter said that He was going back to fishing. They went and the whole night they caught nothing. Jesus came early in the morning but they didn't recognise Him. He asked them whether they had any fish and they said no. He then told them to cast into the right side and to they would cash. They did and were unable to remove the fish because of the large number of fish.

We see here that throughout, the first thing that Jesus wants to hear from us is an honest acknowledgement of our need or lack. Jesus knew they didn't have fish but He wanted them to be honest and admit it and then He perform a miracle for them.

God knows that you are struggling and everything you are facing and all your weaknesses and sins, but He waits for your honest acknowledgement. Trying to hide and assume that all is well will not bring answers until we honesty admit to God.

Have you been trying to hide something from God? Yes you have been praying, but do you beat around the bush about that particular thing? When will you finally expose yourself to God without hiding anything. This is the only time your heart will receive healing.

JOHN 20:19-23. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

Jesus entered the room the disciples enclosed themselves in a room for fear of the Jews. Jesus entered and spoke peace to them.

Fear and doubt is one of the greatest weapon of the devil after deception.

The first thing that Jesus seeks to give us is His peace. Peace and fear cannot live in the same heart. If you have no peace in your heart, your heart is full of fear, anxiety, doubt and guilt, if you truly turn to God in brokenness and repentance, confessing your fears, God will fill your heart with peace and joy. Peace is the normal lifestyle of a true disciple. Pursue it.

Jesus showed His hands and sides and disciples saw it was the Lord. Jesus spoke peace to them the second time, and sent them, just as the Father sent Him.

The first thing is peace, the second is that we have a mission.

How did the Father send Jesus?

At a specific time, for a specific purpose, in a specific place, for a specific people, at a specific duration of time in a specific generation. Gal 4:4, Acts 17:26-27.

We have a specific purpose God wants each one to fulfill in our generation. Jesus fulfilled His purpose because God gave Him everything He needed. Remember we saw in John 17:23 that God loves Jesus' disciples exactly the way He loves Jesus. We therefore conclude that He is willing to the disciples everything they need, be it wisdom, knowledge and understanding, counsel, guidance, strength, encouragement and warnings, health and resources and all the gifts, both natural talents and spiritual gifts. a disciple need to fulfill all of God's purpose for His in His generation no matter their background or their past life, so that at the we can say that, we have done the work you gave me to do. John 17:4. We must walk in Jesus footsteps in we are to receive all the forementioned

Not the work other men give, but the work God gave you. This means you must receive instructions from God yourself. Your pastor or prayer partner cannot find out Gods will for you. You must go to God yourself know His will for your life. Just like a father with many children, the Father desires to tell each child on their own what he wants them to do without sending the other. Everyone must have a direct connection with God. Not through anyone but by yourself.

Remember, bo mortal man can find out Gods will for you, they may guide you, but you will have to go to God yourself.

The role of a pastor, prophet, evangelist, apostle or teacher is only one. To build up the body of Christ for the work of the ministry. Eph 4:11-12

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

He breathed on them and said, receive the Holy Spirit. This is the secret to fulfilling God's purpose in our lives. Being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Remember at the beginning of Jesus ministry, Matthew 3&4, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and tested before commencing His ministry.

In the same way, the disciples must first be filled with the Holy Spirit and tested, before serving their God given purpose. We have to first pass the tests.

He also said that If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

In forgiveness, there are two aspects, the horizontal and the vertical aspect. For every sin, there is a circle of those affected. God is always in that circle and for every sin, God is in that circle. When you sin in your thoughts, you only sin against God. When you steal, you sin against God and the person from whom you have stolen. You may steal someone's reputation by slander and gossip. You must ask for forgiveness from the person and God.

Sins must be confessed in the circle in which they have been committed. If you sin against someone, you have to ask for forgiveness from God and the person you have sinned against. Asking God to forgive you without going to the person you have sinned against is not repentance, and God will not listen to you unless you are willing to go and ask forgiveness from the person or people you have sinned against. Mathew 5:23-24, 18:15-17.

Going back to the statement of Jesus, the disciples forgiving sins, it is in the horizontal aspect not the vertical aspect.

If you ask someone to forgive you, they can choose to forgive you or not, but if they refuse to forgive you after asking for forgiveness, you can still go to God and God will forgive you.

JOHN 19:31-20:18. THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPELS

The Jews not wanting the bodies to be hanging on Sabbath asked their legs be broken. They broke that of the thieves, but coming to Jesus, they saw He was already dead. One soldier to express His frustration pierced His side with a spear, and there came out blood and water. It's interesting to see that this was also prophesied that they will look on Him who they pierced. As it is written, that evens mans anger will praise God. Ps 76:10.

If you are a true disciple, even what men do or speak against you in anger will result to God's praise. God causes everything including man's anger to fulfill a predetermined purpose of God in the disciples life. We serve a living God.

Joseph of Arimathea sought permission to take Jesus' body to bury it. Nicodemus also brought expensive perfumed ointment and they took the body of Jesus and put it in a tomb nearby where no one else had been laid.

On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came very early while still dark and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran to call Simon Peter and John. They ran to the tomb and John overtook Peter, they looked inside and found the linen wrappings folded separately from that of the head. They saw and went away not knowing that He was to rise from the dead. Mary was left at the tomb weeping . She looked again in the tomb and saw two angels. The angels asked why she wept and she said the they had taken away her Lord and she didn't know where they kept it. She looked back and saw Jesus but didn't recognise Him and she asked Him to tell her where they laid Him so that she could take the body.

We see here the tremendous love that Mary Magdalene had for Jesus. When the other disciples went back, she remained weeping. She was willing to give all her energies to carry the body of Jesus back to the tomb. Jesus revealed Himself to her.

In the same way, when Jesus sees that we love Him deeply and are willing to do anything for Him, He reveals Himself to such.

Jesus told her not to cling to Him for He must first ascend His Father and your Father, and to His God, and your God.

Mary went announcing that she had seen Jesus to the disciples.

When Jesus reveals Himself to you, you will go on encouraging other disciples and through you they will experience the presence of Jesus in their own lives.

He is risen from the dead. He is alive forever more. He is on the throne reigning. He has conquered death, sin and the devil. He is on our side against the devil. He is Jesus Christ, our King and Lord.

THE FEAR OF GOD

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.   Wisdom will multiply your days and ...
